Open Art House, in collaboration with Shazar Gallery, is pleased to announce the opening of mArgine a solo exhibition by Giovanni Battimiello.
The mArgine project is a collection of large canvases investigating the physical and emotional condition of migrants forced to leave their countries of origin.
“The Battimiello margin” – writes Graziella Melania Geraci in one of the texts accompanying the catalogue – “ is critical to exclusion, it stands with open barriers with broad horizons. There is an immediate reference to social margins, to suburbs experienced as an opportunity, as a large and human dimension and as a starting point for an intricate journey made of buildings that block the view and boisterous crowds.”
The artist’s goal is to propose travel fragments causing the viewer to search, look and enter with discretion into the cracks that each and every life leaves behind, in order to push beyond the stereotype of a truth already given and beyond the mArgine of a world increasingly intimidated and closed in on itself.
Giovanni Battimiello originally from Naples, graduated from the Liceo Artistico Statale in Treviso. He attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples, graduating in Decoration, and then specialising in Painting. Today he lives and works in Sant’Agata de’ Goti in the province of Benevento. Investigating reality is at the centre of his research expressed through various artistic languages proposing visions that tend to be free of ideological superstructures. He is artistically committed to being involved and present on the national scene and abroad.
