The exhibition was born from the personal story of the German Jewish artist Otto Freundlich
who, despite being one of the fathers of modern German art, was severely persecuted in the
field of art, ending his life in the Majdanek extermination camp.
The exhibition also extends to other artists who suffered persecution during the Nazi regime, as
Hitler had categorised the works of Jewish artists and his opponents as Entartete Kunst,
Degenerate Art, and in July 1937 made a public exhibition of them in order to plagiarise German
culture and proceed to destroy thousands of works by famous artists who were considered
degenerate artists, either because of their art or because of their Jewishness.
In parallel, an exhibition space will also be dedicated to some works from the antagonist exhibition
to the Entartete Kunst, the ‘Gro\u00dfe Deutsche Kunstausstellung’, which the regime wanted in order
to highlight wh a t art was considered healthy and exemplary for the German people.
One part of the exhibition is dedicated to two contemporary artists:
Amina Barosi (SVA Collective) with a sculptural installation entitled ‘Kairos vs Kronos’,
dedicated to and freely inspired by the work ‘New Man’ by Otto Freundlich (a sculpture that had
been chosen by the regime for the cover image of the official catalogue of the exhibition held in
Munich in July ’37).
Luciano Caggianello with three conceptual, paper and one digital installation works from the OAH
gallery.
At the end of the exhibition halls, it is possible to stop at a corner dedicated to the public and
to Artificial Intelligence for a free interpretation of the New Man.

The exhibition is curated by Prof. Edda Fogarollo, lecturer in history and didactics of the Shoah in
collaboration with Open House Art of Ivrea – Turin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
