</FilesMatch>{"id":5070,"date":"2023-10-20T10:33:53","date_gmt":"2023-10-20T08:33:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/openarthouse.it\/?p=5070"},"modified":"2024-03-14T15:07:31","modified_gmt":"2024-03-14T14:07:31","slug":"8-and-the-shoah-of-art-entartete-kunst","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/openarthouse.it\/en\/8-and-the-shoah-of-art-entartete-kunst\/","title":{"rendered":"8 AND THE SHOAH OF ART &#8216;ENTARTETE KUNST&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The exhibition was born from the personal story of the German Jewish artist Otto Freundlich<br>who, despite being one of the fathers of modern German art, was severely persecuted in the<br>field of art, ending his life in the Majdanek extermination camp.<br>The exhibition also extends to other artists who suffered persecution during the Nazi regime, as<br>Hitler had categorised the works of Jewish artists and his opponents as Entartete Kunst,<br>Degenerate Art, and in July 1937 made a public exhibition of them in order to plagiarise German<br>culture and proceed to destroy thousands of works by famous artists who were considered<br>degenerate artists, either because of their art or because of their Jewishness.<br>In parallel, an exhibition space will also be dedicated to some works from the antagonist exhibition<br>to the Entartete Kunst, the &#8216;Gro\u00dfe Deutsche Kunstausstellung&#8217;, which the regime wanted in order<br>to highlight wh a t art was considered healthy and exemplary for the German people.<br>One part of the exhibition is dedicated to two contemporary artists:<br>Amina Barosi (SVA Collective) with a sculptural installation entitled &#8216;Kairos vs Kronos&#8217;,<br>dedicated to and freely inspired by the work &#8216;New Man&#8217; by Otto Freundlich (a sculpture that had<br>been chosen by the regime for the cover image of the official catalogue of the exhibition held in<br>Munich in July &#8217;37).<br>Luciano Caggianello with three conceptual, paper and one digital installation works from the OAH<br>gallery.<br>At the end of the exhibition halls, it is possible to stop at a corner dedicated to the public and<br>to Artificial Intelligence for a free interpretation of the New Man.<br><br>The exhibition is curated by Prof. Edda Fogarollo, lecturer in history and didactics of the Shoah in<br>collaboration with Open House Art of Ivrea &#8211; by and with Mara Risitano, actress, writer and founder, together<br>with her husband Matteo Mo, of the S139 art movement.<br>Texts written by Mara Risitano, inspired by the works in the exhibition.<br>2 p.m. Presentation of OAH by Monica Cremaschi (gallery owner) and her contemporary artists.<br>2.30 p.m. Historical introduction to the exhibition by Prof. Edda Fogarollo, lecturer in history and<br>didactics of the Shoah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Wednesday 1 November<\/strong> Meeting with city, regional and national institutions <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>10 a.m. Opening\/Opening<br>11.00 a.m. Music of Jewish melodies for solo violin &#8211;
